L.E.O Projects supports a number of initiatives in Sri Lanka focused on animal welfare, wildlife conservation and helping vulnerable communities. Rather than operating large programmes with high overheads, the charity focuses on direct support and practical action, working alongside local individuals and organisations to create meaningful impact.

Animal Welfare

One of the core missions of L.E.O Projects is improving the welfare of street dogs and cats in Sri Lanka. The plight of stray animals across the country can be heartbreaking. While many dedicated individuals and organisations are already working tirelessly to help these animals, the scale of the problem means that continued support is always needed. L.E.O Projects focuses on three key areas to support stray animals: Neutering (Sterilisation) Controlling the stray animal population humanely is essential. L.E.O Projects supports the neutering of street dogs and cats in order to prevent uncontrolled breeding and improve long term welfare. Rabies Vaccination Rabies remains a serious concern in many parts of the world. L.E.O Projects supports rabies vaccination programmes for street animals to help protect both animals and communities. Regular Feeding Programmes Feeding programmes are carried out on a regular basis to support stray animals who struggle to find food each day. This is an ongoing effort, as animals require consistent care rather than occasional support. Members of the L.E.O Projects team also assist with rescue situations and veterinary treatment when animals are injured or require medical care. One member of the team is a qualified veterinarian, and the charity works with trusted veterinary professionals in Colombo depending on availability.

Sea Turtle Conservation

Sri Lanka is home to several species of endangered sea turtles, and protecting these animals and their nesting sites is vital for their survival. Since its early days, L.E.O Projects has supported sea turtle conservation efforts in Sri Lanka by working alongside the Victor Hasselblad Turtle Hatchery in Kosgoda, one of the pioneers of turtle conservation in the country. The hatchery has played a significant role in protecting turtle nests, supporting hatchlings and educating visitors about the importance of marine conservation. By supporting this work, L.E.O Projects helps contribute to the protection of these remarkable animals and the fragile ecosystems they depend on.

Supporting Underprivileged Children

Education is a powerful opportunity for children, yet many families in Sri Lanka struggle to afford the basic supplies required for school. Unlike many Western education systems where materials are often provided, children in Sri Lankan schools are typically expected to bring their own supplies each year. At the start of every school year, schools provide a book list detailing the materials students must bring. These lists usually include exercise books, drawing books, pencils, colour pencils and other classroom essentials. Each year, L.E.O Projects supports underprivileged children by purchasing and distributing the items required on these school book lists so that children can attend school fully prepared. In addition to school supplies, L.E.O Projects also provides school uniform material so families can have uniforms made, as well as socks and shoes for children who may not otherwise have proper school footwear.

Community Support & Essential Supplies

In addition to education initiatives, L.E.O Projects also provides basic sanitation and hygiene supplies to communities in need. This includes items such as sanitary products, soap, toothpaste and other everyday essentials. While these items are often taken for granted in many parts of the world, they can make a meaningful difference to the health, dignity and wellbeing of children and families. This initiative is an ongoing support programme and is sometimes delivered alongside the school supply distributions, as well as through separate community support drives.
